Formatting Quora comments
It is possible to format Quora comments, e.g. with bold and italics, even though there isn’t any indication that it is possible.
In the distant past the web interface had a formatting toolbar when adding or editing comments, but this is now only available in some of the mobile apps. But the keyboard shortcuts still work.
Bold
Use Ctrl + B on selected text.
Italics
Use Ctrl + I on selected text.
Lists
Start with “1.” for ordered lists and “* ” (space after “*”) for unordered lists.
Or alternatively, use keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Shift + 7 and Ctrl + Shift + 8, respectively (on a selection)
Links
In the answer editor the keyboard shortcut is Ctrl + K, but it does not work for comments. Instead, paste in the link and edit the link text (if needed).
Code formatting
Use the “
” tag:
Some text formatted as code
But note that it doesn’t work if copy-pasted directly from this web page (due to some embedded formatting). Remove that embedded formatting by copy-pasting it through a simple text editor (like Geany).
An easier way is to use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Shift + K (works both on a selection and without).
Quoting (as in block quote)
Use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Shift + F9 (on a selection).
Mathematics
Quora uses the standard MathJax.
Use the “[math]” tag:
[math]E=mc^2[/math]
But note that it doesn’t work if copy-pasted directly from this web page (due to some embedded formatting). Remove that embedded formatting by copy-pasting it through a simple text editor.
An easier way is to use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Shift + L (works both on a selection and without).
